This Week's Program

Chuck Ray, GEMA Field Operations Manager. There are eight regional GEMA Areas in the state and each one has an Area Coordinator. All eight Area Coordinators directly report to Chuck. Chuck has solid experience with a wide variety of events in diverse jurisdictions. Thomas County is in Area 2.

The purpose of the Emergency Management Agency is to prepare our community for major emergencies and disasters and thereby reduce the loss of life and property. Before a disaster we advise all local agencies of their emergency functions. During the disaster, we oversee the operations of all agencies. Following a disaster we coordinate resources with State and Federal agencies to facilitate recovery.

Feeding Archbold

Monday evening, March 15, the following Rotarians, Bill Dickey, Jamie Lawrence, Jay Flowers, Angela Williamson and John Brown teamed up to feed the Laboratory Department of Archbold Hospital. Forty wonderful barbecue chicken dinners were served up by Grill Master Clemmie Mosley, the winning contestant in the 2019/2020 SPARK Thomasville Program. SPARK Thomasville is a program to help underprivileged residents of our City to become self sustaining entrepreneurs.  Thomasville's 2020/2021 District Grant went to SPARK.

Individually wrapped Chocolate Chip Cookies were donated by Sweet CaCao and Cakes by Will.

It was certainly a Rotary evening. There are more hospital departments that need feeding if other Rotarians wish to get involved. It is a great way to say thank you for all your efforts in this battle against COVID-19.

What You Missed Last Week!

Whitney Houston sang, “I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.” Our program last week, gave us an outlet to make these words a reality. The program was Rotarian Nate Tyler. Assisting Nate was Doctor Neila Connors. Their presentation showed us how Rotarians can make the future a little brighter for deserving children. Another part of the Whitney Houston song says, “Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier. Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be.” This is Rotary opening opportunities.

Nate and Neila are responsible for two youth programs at the Marguerite Neel Williams Boys and Girls. Nate is spearheading The Family Plush Initiative, and Neila is directing the Virtual Instruction & Commitment to Education (V.I.C.E) program.

The following is the goal of the V.I.C.E Program. “Our goal is to ensure that EVERY student is on task and completing course work in a timely manner, while they are in a positive and productive learning environment.” Both of these programs offer Rotarians the opportunity to make a difference in our community.

FIRESIDE CHAT at Harry's Pond House Tuesday, March 23

Join us at Harry's Pond for our next Fireside Chat on the 23rd.  For our new members, the Fireside Chat is a Red Ribbon  activity.

Directions:

From the Intersection of the Thomasville Bypass and Georgia Highway 3 Alternate (Old Ochlocknee Road), proceed in a northerly direction on GA 3 Alternate for 4.1 miles.  This highway takes you across Georgia's might Ochlocknee River.  Soon after crossing the river (as the road curves) you will see warning markers along the right side of the highway.  Slow down because the Camp House Entrance is on the right at the last warning marker.  The number 22472 is on the end of the fence.  The fence is brownish and so is the gate - but the gate should be open for you.

Come in through the open gate and continue LEFT along the gravel path to the Camp House.  Proceed for three-tenths of a mile to the first of two rail crossings.  It is not necessary to stop at this first crossing because you turn RIGHT just before the tracks.  Proceed one-tenth of a mile to the next rail crossing and turn LEFT.  You have arrived!
