Tournament Raises $11k!For the past few years, the Caterpillar Corporation in Thomasville has sponsored a golf tournament to raise money for the United Way. Unfortunately for our community, Caterpillar closed their doors last year and their manufacturing was re-located. Scooter Grubbs, a member of the Thomasville Rotary Club, came to the Board and asked if the Thomasville Rotary Club would consider carrying on this tradition since the United Way has so many organizations in this community that it supports. The Board approved it and on August 26, 2017, we held the first annual Rotary Golf Classic to support the United Way. Much planning and organizing went into this and we were extremely successful! Our club raised over $11,000 with some 46 hole sponsors and 24 teams made up of 4 members each. 34 Rotarians participated in this event, whether helping register, monitoring holes or playing on one of the teams. It was a HUGE success and we feel it will be an annual event that will make our Rotary Club shine. We are thankful to Country Oaks Golf Course for allowing us to use their facility, golf carts and greens for this wonderful event and we look forward to having this event there next year! |
