What You Missed Last WeekThere is a familiar motto that says, “Be Prepared.” This motto was displayed at last week’s meeting when the previously scheduled program was not able to attend. There were replacements as Rotarians Wallace Goodman and Andre’ Marria bridged the gap. Wallace gave an in-depth update on the upcoming 75th GRSP Conclave and Celebration. The update included important events to remember such as the Dedication of Peace Plaza and Will Watt Memorial Fountain and the Big Birthday/Anniversary Party. The big reveal was that as of now, there are twenty-seven students attending, with more expected. This means that we still need host families. If you would like to be a host a student, please contact Wallace, Debbie or Walter Marria. Andre’ introduced the new Rotary Youth And Peace In Action program. According to Andre’, Rotary is providing virtual peace building training to students, peace project training for student leaders and peace training to two teachers during the 2021-2022 school year per school. This project is the largest local peace initiative undertaken by Rotary International and encompasses 875 schools on the East Coast of the U. S., the Caribbean and part of South America. The Rotary Club of Thomasville will provide this program at no charge to students and two teachers. Our long-time server at the Plaza Colby Sellers is leaving Thomasville for new adventures in Athens. We thank him for his service and wish him well and much success. Diane Newsome, wife of President Wayne Newsome surprised us with some of her personal artwork. Several attendees were gifted with mementos of Diane’s artwork. Thanks Diane. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” Mahatma Gandhi~
