Dr. Edward Shaw received his BS in Biology from Georgia Southwestern State University. After receiving his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Health's Rocky Mountain Laboratories. He then spent four years as a microbiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta before taking a faculty position at Oklahoma State University. During his 15 years on the faculty at OSU, Dr. Shaw taught biology, immunology and graduate level courses in emerging infectious diseases and bacterial pathogenic mechanisms. He also directed an active research group studying the molecular mechanisms of obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens. In 2019, Dr. Shaw joined the faculty of PCOM South Georgia as an associate professor of medical microbiology and immunology. He is also the program director of the biomedical sciences program.
