This Week's Program

Dr. Tripp Martin, Founder and CEO

In 2016, Dr. Tripp Morgan sat on the porch of the family’s farmhouse in Albany with his father, Harris, overlooking their 200+ acres of organic wheat. He began to dream of resurrecting his love for creating delicious beer and creating a place for his community to meet and enjoy the flavors produced in this rich Southern soil. He envisioned the fields in front of him filled with barley varieties, wheat, hops, and fruit for seasonal additions. After more than three years of planning, transforming and building, Pretoria Fields Collective opened its tasting room doors in Downtown Albany in the winter of 2017.

Their tradition as farmers is to focus on organic sustainable farming and natural resource management. Farming has been in the family for generations. They grow organically, as we believe that’s best, even though it’s more challenging. It’s farming the way that is used to be. Harris oversees the day to day operations on the farm and carefully monitors the selection, planting, organic maintenance and harvesting of a diverse and ever-growing crops.

In weekly meetings, the collective comes together to discuss what’s happening on the farm, what’s happening in the brewery and what’s being served to our community. From the fields to the fermentation tanks and all the way to the glasses of our patrons – they are proud of what they're doing. They couldn’t be happier to see conversations develop around tasting room tables, friendly competitions over a chess match and live music in our courtyard – as these all represent the vivacity of the community of Albany.

Character Counts!

Rotarians Needed To Make a Difference in Changed Lives

The Thomasville Rotary Club has made a difference in the lives of Thomas Counties’ youth for many years. One of the many successful endeavors of the Thomasville Rotary Club has been Character Counts. Character Counts was created in 1992 and is the largest character development organization in the world.

Our Rotary Club has underwritten the cost of this character building program for many years. Our members volunteer to facilitate discussion sessions in four local schools and youth development organizations on the Six Pillars of Character which are taught as part of the organizations curriculum.

Six Pillars of Character:

  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Citizenship

Character Counts Centers of Influence

  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Vashti
  • Scott School
  • Community Resource Center

Responsibility

Two volunteers will facilitate Character Counts sessions in one of our organizations. The session lasts about 45 minutes. A great session is when the students carry most of the conversation and the volunteers have a chance to see the hope and joy of our future. Ideally it would be great for a volunteer to be willing to facilitate for six sessions or about 6 hours of service in 2020. Volunteers will be equipped with discussion materials and outlines before each class.

Volunteer

“ After volunteering in prisons for 30 years, I have witnessed the impact of the accelerating breakdown of the American family. After spending one hour at the Community Resource Center facilitating a Character Counts session I was blessed by the joyful creativity of young folks seeking solutions for challenges in their relationships and neighborhoods. “ Matt Brown

Please let Matt Brown know if you would be willing to consider serving in this meaningful opportunity for the youth of our community.
