The Rotary Club of Thomasville began collecting coats, blankets and sweaters for the Thomas County Food Bank and Outreach Center in 2002 in answer to an urgent request. We continued in a small way until President Francis Parker made this our signature project for 2004-2005. Rotary provided over 100 items that year and a Rotary plaque was placed in the Food Bank designating this event.
This is our 19th event and Rotary has reached out into the community for partners. Six Thomasville schools and the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club are involved. At the end of the school year many coats are left behind and are donated to the Rotary program. Due to the Pandemic we missed a great opportunity to collect the amount of coats that we normally collect. At the end of last year we collected under 100. This year so far we have 1 blankets and 65 coats and sweaters and our drive will continue.
