What You Missed Last Week!

Ralph Smedley, founder of Toastmasters International is quoted as saying, “We learn best in moments of enjoyment." This was exemplified in last week’s meeting. It was one of our better meetings. It was encouraging, informative and humorous.

The meeting began with Eugene McNease giving us some Sunshine by way of a Rotary tradition, Rotary Fellowships. Rotary Fellowships are international, independently organized groups of Rotarians, Rotarian spouses, and Rotaractors who share a common vocation or recreational interest. Rotary Fellowships give their members the opportunity to have fun, make new friends around the world, and enhance their experience in Rotary. The program was all about GRSP.

The program was all about GRSP. We were blessed to have two GRSP students in attendance. Loreto Gonzalez is an alumna from Santiago Chile, she was our GRSP student twenty-five years ago, which was also the Fiftieth Anniversary of GRSP. Loreto was hosted by Wallace and Debbie Goodman. It was great hearing Loreto share with the club scenes from her life over the past twenty-five years.

The other student is Karoline Petersen from Denmark, and she is our 2021-2022 GRSP. Karoline has been with her host family Wilson and Jill Carraway for about two weeks. She is settling into her new home, enjoying herself and looking forward to a great year at Valdosta State University. We thank both Loreto and Karoline for spending time with us at Thursday’s meeting.

The meeting ended with Don Sims auctioning off a bottle of wine from Chile. Several Rotarians offered bids. Homer, David, and Jay offered the most. Don’s poor hearing brought the bid up, but Jay set him straight with sign language. After Homer raised his hand to recognize himself as the president during the term of our GRSP student 25 years ago, he almost walked away with the wine. Thanks, Jay for contributing $125 to GRSP. We thank Don for giving us the gift of laughter.

Popes Museum
This Weeks Program!

Popes Museum is a national treasure with its roots in Grady County that exemplifies the importance of the arts in women’s history, civic pride, and historic preservation. As such, Popes Museum is a core player in strengthening the community of South Georgia specifically targeting the areas of the arts, education, and historic preservation. Conveniently located less than one hour from Valdosta, Albany and Tallahassee, Pope’s Museum and Farm fulfills your vision whether you want an upscale micro wedding or a celebration on a larger scale. The restored 160+ year former museum and farm interlaces elegance and sustainability, so that your choice of venue matches your lifestyle and values. See yourself descending down the split staircase of heart pine flooring, or standing beneath the century old native landscaping. Use the lace balcony as a photo backdrop or as a landing spot to celebrate with a glass of champagne. At every corner, you will be transported to a world of elegance and beauty, while staying within your budget goals.
