On June 29, 2026, North Columbus Rotary Club’s just completed international project in Nepal was handed over to the municipal authority of the city of Biratnagar in Nepal. The project, funded by a Rotary International Global grant, was completed at a cost of $32,300. It has been a collaborative effort between the Rotary clubs of North Columbus (international sponsor), Birartnagar (host club), Districts 6900 and 3292. It was supported by a $10,400 matching grant from the World Fund.

This project will provide a modern, accessible public toilet facility in a central location of Biratnagar to help address sanitation and environmental pollution issues in the city. It will include nine toilets for women, men, disabled and transgender people. It also includes a drinking water fountain, a vending machine for sanitary products and a sanitary waste management system. This facility aims to improve hygiene, promote environmental sustainability, and reduce pollution in a high-traffic area of the city. An estimated 1000 to 2500 people will benefit from this public facility each month.

The long-term maintenance of this sanitation facility will be overseen by the city municipality of Biratnagar.
